From Grass To Grace: The Story Of Liverpool Star Sadio Mane

 




Sadio Mane was born in 1992, at Bambali, Sédhiou, Senegal to a Muslim family, his father was an imam who preaches in one of the local mosque in Senegal, his mother was a mere trader that sold goods in small  quantity in one of the daily markets in Senegal capital, Dakar.


Sadio Mane had a dream of playing professional football, but was forbidden to pursue his career by his father who didnt fancy football as a career for any of his children.

This decision from Sadio Mane's dad was linked to his religious belief as an imam.


When Sadio Mane was seven years old, his father died, this incident was one of the saddest moment of sadio Mane's life, but would later result to a lifetime opportunity for the young and aspiring footballer.

Sadio mane ran away from home at age fifteen to pursue his football in career.

Sadio Mane joined a club in Dakar the capital city of Senegal and started playing grassroot football until he was spotted by scouts and was recruited as a player for M'Bour.

Sadio Mane was picked by scouting agents and was referred to  Génération Foot, where he played an instrumental role to help the club secure promotion to the second division in the 2010–11 season.

The footballing career of Sadio Mane started rising not minding the financial incapability of his family, Sadio Mane found it difficult to purchase sporting kits such as boots and jerseys, but still had the determination to continue striving hard for success.


Sadio Mane's 

dream started becoming a reality when French club Metz signed him from Senegal, Metz had a partnership with sadio mane's former club, where they had the right of refusal to sign selected players form the first team.


Sadio mane joined Metz in 2011 and made his first appearance for the club on 14 January 2012, where he came in as a substitute.


Sadio Mane have since gone on to play for clubs in Austria and England, his record from Southampton to Liverpool was recorded as the highest transfer fee received by Southampton for a player.

Sadio Mane have since gone on to become one of the best African footballers ever, he has won the UEFA Champions league and was also named the African footballer of the year in 2020.

 Despite his huge income Sadio Mane is one of the humblest footballer ever, he has been seen with a phone that has a broken screen and less fancy cars, when asked by journalist, he always say that he preffereed to use his money to help kids in senegal rather than waste it on exotic lifestyle in Europe.

Sadio Mane have also built hospitals that take Care of disabled kids at his hometown in Senegal.

The story of sadio mane is one which should serve as a motivation to us, despite his challenging background, he never gave up on his dream of playing football, rather he worked hard despite not receiving much help from his family members.
